Research Fellowship Program
Our in-residence fellows are independent, public, and academic scholars who spend four-week residencies examining local archives to add depth and clarity to our understanding of Michigan’s Jewish history. Your support not only underwrites these unique research opportunities, but it also allows our community to engage with professional historians through thought-provoking brown-bag lunch programs, in-depth research presentations, and incisive articles in JHSM’s Michigan Jewish History journal.
Michigan Jewish History Journal
Publication is essential to the process of preserving and sharing new historical knowledge. In order to showcase the cutting-edge contributions made by JHSM-funded scholars, we publish Michigan Jewish History (MJH). This annual, peer-reviewed scholarly journal has been illuminating history for both academic and public audiences for 60 years. Your support helps ensure that current and future generations have access to thought-provoking and pertinent historical information and interpretation.
Documentary Film: "Jewish Labor in the Auto Industry"
The automotive industry is at the heart of Michigan history, but few know the crucial role played by Jewish labor. Our film-based educational initiative “Jewish Labor in the Auto Industry” will bring to life the stories of Jewish laborers and their impact on the industry. The film is a short documentary (produced in partnership with Flow Video) that explores their key contributions through archival images, footage, and documents. Lesson plans, multimedia presentations, and web-based platforms round out this innovative and in-depth experience for high school and undergraduate students. This is a unique opportunity to tell an untold story about the Jewish contribution to our state.
